Kathmandu Metropolitan City, War 15 has rich cultural, social and traditional values. However, there are limited platforms to collectively celebrate these traditions and bring together people of all age groups. This festival aims to promote unity, preserve local culture and create opportunities for social interaction and economic activities.

The KMC ward 15 stands as a timeless symbol of Nepal’s ancient civilization, deeply rooted in history, mythology and spirituality. One of the UNESCO world heritage sites, Swoyambhu believed to have originated from the self-existence Swoyambhu Mahachaitya lies at the heart of KMC 15 ward. The area is believed to have harmony between Buddhism and Hinduism, along with remarkable ancient tradition, art and ancient architecture. However, modernization has created challenges in preserving and promoting its original historical essence.

Following the success and learning from Swoyambhu Festival 2081, the upcoming 2083 aims to further deepen the focus on ancient history, reconnecting people with their roots while promoting heritage conservation, tourism and community engagement.

In this context, 2nd edition of Swoyambhu Festival, with the theme “Unfolding Locality” aims to gradually reveal, celebrate and reinterpret the historical, cultural, and spiritual dimension of KMC ward 15. The festival envisions creating a platform where history is not only preserved but actively experienced – through stories, art, performance, and community engagement.
